I didn't do a proper Father's Day post and I am a bit ashamed. I needed to sing the praises of my husband but I didn't. I should have said something about my Daddy and my Daddy in law, but again, I didn't.
Let me take a moment to say this... I am blessed. The father of my children couldn't BE a better daddy, my own father loves me just like I am still his little girl in pig tails, and my father in law acts like he hand picked me for his daughter.... BLESSED I tell you.
That being said, I have a story to share.
Saturday night, my parents, my brother, his wife, my nephew, my kiddos, and I went out to eat for Father's Day. We left the restaurant and the whole lot of us went to Walmart.
No, that wasn't the funny part of the story.
We split up inside of the store. I left my kiddos with my mother and went to the lingerie department. ALL (and I do mean ALL) of my bras are suddenly having technical difficulties. The underwire has started poking out of them. And folks... that hurts.
I was shopping for a new "over the shoulder boulder holder" and my Dad walked up, obviously to hang out with me.
I told him "Um, I'm bra shopping."
"Do you want me to go away?"
Seriously, what am I supposed to say? Am I supposed to tell my Dad on Father's Day weekend that I would prefer for him to go away? I could have just left without one but the escaping underwire on the bra that I was wearing was about to draw blood.
So I said "No, I don't care if you don't care."
Then my Dad proceeded to follow me all around the lingerie department talking about....
...his church.
So I checked cup sizes (as in most places, the selection of larger sized bras in Walmart is pathetic - can I get an amen?) while he told me about his church's plans for homecoming.
I finally found a decent bra and made a bee line out of the lingerie department for the check out. Now the thing about my Dad is, he won't let me pay for anything. It's like he can't! If we are standing at a register together, he has his wallet out speedy quick and won't hear of letting me pay.
So my Dad bought my bra.
And I had to say "Well Dad, thanks for my new brassier."
To which he said "You're welcome. I've never bought one before."
WHEW! That's good to know!

AWKWARD!!
That's so funny and sweet! That's a sign of a good man...he goes bra shopping with his daughter!
My first really good laugh in the past 24 hours! My Monday dragged out way to long...
Thanks so much Jen, I needed this this morning!
You PK's are something else! You remind me so much of my daughter!
Have a great Tuesday!
Funny story. Your dad's great! I wish my father would buy me some bras or shoes or anything.
Glad you had fun with your family.

Just hang in there pop, it's ok, she don't know nothing yet, You already know about them hooter holders that keep them out of the arm pits. Just smile, someday she will understand.
That is good to know. My dad is the same way. We took them out to eat for their 50th anniversary. And as we went in , my hushand and brother told the waitress not to except $ from that man. She gave them a funny look but before the night was over, she understood. And yes he got up and tried to pay. while we were eating. Hard Headed Man! But still taken care of his family after all these years. I love him!
Bwahahahaha! Your Dad paid for your new bra at The Walmart on Father's Day! hahahahaha! I love you guys! I heard about your blog at Bloggeritaville! Thanks for the warm fuzzies and smiles today. Awesome!
LOL, nothing like a little quality time, eh?
I think fathers of girls are just desensitized to that sort of thing. My dad has no problem coming with me when I have to pick up lanolin cream for nursing, feminine supplies, etc.
That was so sweet.
LOL - - - such a cute story.
I get mine at Kohl's when they go on sale. It's sooooo much nicer there than at Wally World.
And I totally "get" them ALL wearing out at once - - - been there, they did that.
LOL there is nothing like Daddys!
Yes, it's good to hear your father has not been buying a lot of bras.
Jen, you are so blessed to have a Dad, period....but a Dad with an open billfold - now that is the life of a Princess!!!
Love you,
Tiz
I love it! What a great story.
My grandfather was the purchaser in our clan. He could pay faster than anyone I've ever met.
KRISTINA - You know it!
DEBBIE - He IS a good man. I tried to picture whether Bryan would bra shop with his adult daughters but all I could imagine was Diva Daughter saying "DAD! Go to sporting goods and I'll come find you!" :D
DEBRA - EXCELLENT! I am so glad I could make you laugh. And what a nice compliment that I remind you of your daughter. Thank you Debra.
FRINGE GIRL - It is a pride thing with him. Plus, it makes him feel like I'm still his kiddo instead of the mother of his GRANDKIDS.
SARGE - I can tell that you and Dad would like each other :)
JERRI - Dad has always told us NOT to get him anything for Father's Day - he said that WE are the reason he's a Dad and he should give US a gift. It doesn't work - we still gift him - but he has a generous spirit.
CINDY - Well hi! Love Leigh and glad you are here by way of her blog. Glad you appreciate the post.
MUTHERING - My Dad has ALWAYS been so easily embarrassed about things like that I guess it surprised me that he stayed.
JUST BREATHE - Thanks!
KEETHA - I guess it's because when we buy them we buy several at once? I dunno but it was just weird this time. I'll watch Kohls for a sale.
BAMA BELLE - You are a Daddy' Girl too so I know you understand.
CHARLES - Seriously!
TIZ - I am not complaining :) The thing is he is not just generous with me. He has a good heart.
KIRBY - And I bet he did it joyfully! Men like that like taking care of those that they love.
how funny ! my dad is the
same way !!!
That is hilarious!!! How sweet! You know, we always think it's awkward when stuff like that happens, but honestly. Did you really think he didn't know that you wore one? It's like sex. Your parents know you do it.
Love the term "over the shoulder bolder holder"!!! And I NEVER (and seriously, I mean NEVER) buy bras at Wal Mart. They never fit right and they last all of two seconds.
I loved picturing this whole scene and dialogue between you and your dad. Hilarious and sweet, both at the same time. :) He sounds like an awesome father, btw.
I found your dad's behavior very charming and endearing.
JOCELYN - It makes you feel cherished, you know?
LIZ - I am such a cheapo it is hard for me to buy them anywhere else.
Dad is really funny about the whole sex thing. I remember when I was a teenager he got really freaked out about a sexual situation on TV and was looking desperately for the remote to change the channel.
It was two owls mating on a nature channel :)
SCARLET - He really is - Dad and I are close.
I really like your thumbnail pic!
TRAVIS - I think you would really like him.
HAHAHAHAAHHAHA! I Love that! And I can just picture it too. Priceless.
Yes, Amen on the larger sizes. It seems anywhere I have issues. Even Belks. I DISPISE bra shopping.
Oh THAT WAS a good story! Thanks for the smile. I'm trying to let Dear Bebe go down for a nap and she's been crying for fifteen minutes! Thanks for the happy break.
OH Jen this is so funny it brought tears to my eyes. What a father's day buying your grown daughter a bra. Bet he bought lunch too. LOL!!!! Priceless. I would have loved being the shopper over hearing the conversation. HA!!!! Young woman, old man, bras, church reunions!!!!!!LOL I'm about to fall out of my chair. Whew, I needed this laugh.
OMGOSH... that is too cute, sweet and totally adorable. That is the Dad I had up until two years ago. You are very lucky.
