BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES!!!

Well, not quite.

Ida came our way and she brought a LOT of rain and strong winds with her. Otherwise, she was fairly well behaved when she reached the Alabama coast. Originally a hurricane, Ida was downgraded to a tropical storm as she entered the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The schools were closed Monday and Tuesday as a precautionary measure (my kids approved). Thank goodness Tropical Storm Ida was a relatively uneventful weather event in terms of damage, at least in our community.

We headed south and were on the beach at Gulf Shores Alabama by 8:00 Monday morning.

The Boy borrowed his sister's houndstooth sunglasses to protect his eyes from sand since the wind was gusting fairly hard.

You can see the Gulf State Park Pier in the background of this photo. The waves were very rough.

We left the beach at Gulf Shores and headed to the pier.

It was almost deserted.

Shots of the waves from the pier...

We headed to the beach at Fort Morgan which is much more remote. The waves were wreaking havoc on the beach. I couldn't figure out why this picture was backward (notice the writing on the sign). Then I finally realized Bryan took it through the side mirror on his car.

The dunes at Fort Morgan beach...

Time for lunch! We ate at a beach side restaurant in Gulf Shores called The Hangout. We were seated on the open porch with a spectacular view of the waves.

Media attention!

Hey! Thanks for visiting my blog too!

Great photos. I'm sure the kids will remember that trip for a long time. Glad Ida chilled out and didn't do too much damage.

Hey how did you get that photo of my interior on your sidebar...and why are you in the middle of my room blogging? Seriously, our first indoor kitty has our curtains looking just like that!

Glad Ida's temper wasn't worse. I like being out at times like that when there aren't other people around. Very nice.

We love the Hangout. We live in Bham and we try to get to Gulf Shores every year. This past September, we were at a Fort Morgan beach. I'm glad Ida didn't do much damage.

Thanks for sharing the pics!

BTW, did anyone dance on the tables at the Hangout? he he.

Have a terrific day. :)

That looks like so much fun! I wish we lived closer to a beach, I find it so calming. Instead we live in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains and we're freezing our rear ends off.

Thanks for sharing the photos!

I first thoughts as I'm reading this and looking at the pictures was that you guys are either brave or stupid. Then it hit me, that the storm had been downgraded. Duh.

Anyway, the photos are super. I feel like I was there with you. It's quite interesting that sunglasses were required to keep the sand out.

Praise the Lord that you were spared from the onslaught of Hurricane Ida which was later on downgraded into a tropical storm. Our country was not that lucky since we were battered by three successive typhoons that battered the country and left so much
deaths and destruction. Your kids are simply fantastic. They are all so good looking. Visiting the beaches after the storm to survey what happened was an adventure indeed. You topped it off with a sumptuous meal in a seaside restaurant. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
