Tired of all of those Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Editions piling up?

Have I got an idea for you!

It's Thrifty Thursday with Leigh of Bloggeritaville. A warm thanks to Leigh for graciously hosting today's blog-along.

So. Your fella has a pile of S.I. swimsuit magazines that date back to the Kathy Ireland cover model days.

I'm sure the clutter drives you nuts, right?

Why not turn the magazines into cheeky little bows for Christmas gifts?

I found the idea HERE at How about Orange and thought "Hey! I can do that!"

I followed the directions on the site in regards to the length of the paper and how to fold it, but I tweaked my bow making slightly.

Since Bryan doesn't actually have any Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazines for me to destroy use, I tore this page from another magazine.

I cut it into nine 3/4 inch wide strips per the directions on How about Orange - 3 full length, three strips minus one inch, 2 strips minus 2 inches, and then the shorty.

Beginning with the smallest piece, I made a loop, and secured it with a brad.

Then I continued building the bow starting with the shorter lengths and ending with the longest lengths of paper.

The brad eliminated the need for staples or glue. I used a pin to make a small hole in the folded paper so insertion of the brad was easier.

And that's is it!

Cute, no?

It was so easy and so much fun that it didn't take long for this...

to turn into this...

to turn into this....

"But Jen, not everyone has time to play with paper and scissors all day."

This is true. That's why I had thought about listing a few bows on my Etsy shop as a Creatively Fighting Cancer item (100% of the proceeds would go to Cancer research). I'm not sure if I will because of shipping - I don't want them to become smooshy bows.

But speaking of my Etsy shop and Creatively Fighting Cancer (seriously, how smooth was that segue)...

Casii of Granny Panty Chic sent me a package of cards to sell for Creatively Fighting Cancer!! Mmmm-wah! I love ya Casii! And they are sooooo pretty too. Here is a sample...

My daughters and I had a fit over this little jewel of a notebook. It would make a perfect "just because" gift (so says Oldest Daughter, hoping I'll buy if for her just because)...

I appreciate Casii SO MUCH for her support! And if you are a card maker or a crafter and want to donate an item for Creatively Fighting Cancer, let me know!

Just a little bit more good news... I sold my first three items this week! I was THRILLED! All of the money from those sales will be donated to Cancer research - YAY! I did hate to see the Breakfast at Tiffany's themed cards leave though. I really do love Audrey Hepburn....

... so I just may make some more :)

Thanks so much for visiting me today. Be blessed Y'all!

How cute are those? I'm sure our mom's or grandma's probably made some just like them back in the day! Isn't it nice that thriftiness is cool again. Not that I'm happy with the eonomy, but it does push us to be creative and reuse things more.
Hugs,
Dawn

LOVE the bows!!! That's a fabulous idea you can use with anything. We don't get magazines, but the kids could even decorate paper and we could make them out of that. Love those cards too :-)

Thanks for posting about how to make those bows. I love the idea of recycling the old magazines into something useful! The tutorial was very helpful.
Have a great day.

I saw those bows on the Orange site and wondered if they were as easy to make as they looked -- I'm so glad that you made them!! What fun. I'm totally making them now.

How awesome that you have already sold a few items and got a few more. Those cards are gorgeous (both sets!) - Congrats again :)

Yea on your first sale. I love, love, love the bows. I'll have to try that when I have time to play with scissors. HA!

Boy do I feel foolish for spending almost .20¢ after Christmas last year for that bag of 100 bows, especially now that I know that with a pair of scissors and 23 hours of intense labor I could have kept that money ☺ seriously they look good congrats on that first sale. Just read a story on the guy that started etsy pretty neat concept.

Are you kidding? You MADE those bows! Holy cow, how good are you! I love those. I may have to see if I can do that, though doubtful. I also LOVE the Audrey cards. I think she perhaps is the most beautiful woman too. My son Bama agrees. He has a huge poster of her in his dorm room. Glad he can appreciate a classic WOMAN. No hoochie tacky half dressed thing. I raised em right.
I also love that sweeet little notebook, precious!
Thankyou for linking up tp Thrifty Thursday! I am most appreciative of you!
